Die Europäische Sommerakademie des GSI wurde 1990 gegründet. Seither kommen jeden Sommer rund 80 junge Europäer/innen in Bonn zusammen, um sich europapolitisch (weiter) zu bilden, in einem interdisziplinären Dialog auszutauschen und zu vernetzen. Für das hohe Niveau der Sommerakademie bürgen auch deren Schirmherren, führende Europäer aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft wie Günter Verheugen, Jean-Claude Juncker und Javier Solana, um nur einige zu nennen.
Programm und Methodik Renommierte Wissenschaftler und Praktiker greifen in Vorträgen und Diskussionen aktuelle und grundlegende Schwerpunkte europäischer Politikfelder auf. In Workshops werden Spezialthemen vertiefend erarbeitet. Eine zweitägige Exkursion nach Brüssel ermöglicht Einblicke in die Arbeit der Europäischen Institutionen vor Ort und gibt Gelegenheit zur Diskussion mit deren Mitarbeitern.
Referenten Zu den regelmäßig auftretenden Referenten gehören Praktiker aus In- und Ausland sowie aus den EU-Institutionen in Brüssel, Luxemburg und Straßburg. Daneben sind Europa-Wissenschaftler aus den EU-Gründungsstaaten und den neuen Mitgliedstaaten traditionell bei uns in Bonn und Brüssel zu Gast. TeilnehmendeDie XXI. Europäische Sommerakademie richtet sich an junge Fach- und Führungskräfte aus Administration, Medien, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, an Studierende aller Fachrichtungen aus Deutschland und anderen EU-Staaten sowie
Teilnahmebedingungen Interessenten sollten über Basiskenntnisse der europäischen Integration, der Institutionen und des Gemeinschaftsrechts der EU verfügen. Hauptarbeitssprache ist Deutsch. Einzelne Programmteile (z.B. in Brüssel) finden in englischer Sprache statt. Alle Teilnehmer sollten zumindest über gute passive Deutschkenntnisse verfügen. Diskussionsbeiträge sind allerdings auch in Englisch möglich.
Das Gustav-Stresemann-Institut e.V. Seit rund 50 Jahren folgt die Institutsarbeit dem Gedanken der Friedensnobelpreisträger von 1926, Gustav Stresemann und Aristide Briand, die gesamteuropäische Verständigung zu verbessern und die internationale Zusammenarbeit zu fördern. Das GSI arbeitet unabhängig, überparteilich und gemeinnützig.

For more than fifty years now we Europeans have achieved an expanding Union that is no longer a mere common market, but has evolved into a strong Community with high levels of social protection and human rights. Countless EU-financed social development projects ensure equality and prosperity. EU student exchange programmes enable us to study and live abroad. Furthermore, we benefit from easy cross-border financial transactions and seldom question travelling across the EU without a passport. The integration process was successful against all odds. The European Union has become a people´s Europe. Today we are facing a new challenge arising from the financial crisis that has caused a sharp downturn in the global economy. What does this mean to the integration process? We want to discuss the EU´s current condition with young professionals from governments, business, politics, academia and journalism as well as postgraduate students from Europe and beyond. How are we affected? Which strategies are available and needed to face global threads? What are Europe´s responsibilities in topical agendas such as climate change, development cooperation, foreign relations and the promotion of political stability? We want to talk about the role of civil society in this context. In the twentieth year of the European Summer Academy we would like to set a focus on the benefits of networking. We kindly invite you to join the European Summer Academy in Bonn. - Be part of a group of 80 like-minded people from a wide range of nationalities and educational backgrounds. - The academic knowledge you gain here will enable you to analyse and critically discuss current global challenges. - Enjoy an interesting excursion to European Institutions in Brussels.

created the Europäische Sommerakademie. Since then the ten-day course has been a venue for exchange, learning and dialogue on European integration for more than 1.500 people from about 30 countries worldwide. With this course we conribute to the process of deepening the understanding for each others thoughts and needs without loosing our own different perceptions. This is an essential key to resolving today’s problems, not only of Europe, but of the world. Therefore the European Summer Academy never lost its raison d´être.
